How much memory do you need?

We all know that the more RAM memory you have, the better off you are. But how much memory do you really need? The answer depends on how much and for what your system is used. Now, Dr.T will show you how to upgrade your computer`s RAM more easily and cost effectively.

Basic User: 1~2GB

RAM is used whenever you open a Flash game, download files or simply turn on your computer. If you are running Windows 7 or Windows Vista, entering the desktop will take up 700MB of memory. If you are running Windows XP, around 400MB will be enough.

However, if you are spending most of the time surfing the Net, listening to music, watching videos, and doing word processing along with other applications that take up little memory, about 1-2MB of memory will sufficiently meet your needs.

Game Enthusiast/ Graphics Design Professional: 4GB or more

If you frequently work with high-end graphics, CAD software, digital images, or videos that involve a lot of animation or 3D, you will need a lot more memory to get more space. Or if you are constantly doing scientific computing calculations or are a fan of 3D computer games, you will benefit greatly by installing at least 4GB of memory into your computer.

Extreme Overclocker: Overclocking memory

If you are no longer satisfied with current levels of computer performance, and want to pursue top shelf speed, overclocking memory is just what you need. Overclocking memory modules are specially designed to operate at a blazing-fast clock frequency with a rather low voltage, ensuring you get the best possible performance from your computer system.

Also bear in mind that a 32-bit version operation system can see only 3.5GB of ram total. So you’d better upgrade to the full 64-bit version to increase your computer`s memory capability. Before you purchase memory, always remember to check your motherboard model for compatibility.
